Always Drawing

The other night at work it was pretty slooowww. Not a whole lot of folks come into the gym on sunny evenings. My guess is that they were all out enjoying the gorgeous weather. The lady I was working with had brought her knitting for just such an occaision. What I usually bring along is one of these: These are my favorite pens! The Uniball Signo 207. The ink in them is to 'prevent check fraud' but the reason I like them is that they are ballpoint, not flowpen, and the ink in them works perfectly with Prismacolor markers. Anyway, this isn't an ad for Uniball (although I'd wouldn't tell them no if they asked me!)

The next time I worked one of my other coworkers laughingly told me that _____ had said incredulously that I had been drawing almost the whole time. And just Paisleys! She just couldn't understand it! How could I just sit there for that long drawing paisleys? Well here is the thing, all joking aside, I HAVE to draw. Everyday. It's sort of like a meditation. The curves and curls, the various layers of elements (the jaggedy triangles, the loop-de-loops, the curvy bracket and the half circle to name a few) can just keep on going until the page is filled and fancy. I've gone through dozens of those pens. I've been fantasizing about having a custom one done. Maybe get some of those little stick-on blings like Paris Hilton has for her phone.

When I was in school, I often took notes in 'doodle' instead of short or longhand. I still have some of my best ones filed away somewhere. And then when they weren't notes, they were just inky day-dreams. That sounds like a good title for a drawing doesn't it?

And the winner is.....

I used Wordle to do my random drawing. Wordle is a fun time-waste-y site that you can fiddle with for endless minutes. You can either paste your text, or you can put in the web addy of your site and it randomly chooses words from it to make a Wordle.
I typed all of your names into the engine, pre-chose a spot (by closing my eyes and jimmying the mouse around) and then hit 'Go.' The person whose name was closest to the mouse when it finished its design was Nance who heard of my contest through Twitter.
Congratulations, Nance! I hope you enjoy your coloring book. Thanks very much to everyone who participated and again to Tiffany for the great idea! The coloring book is now available in my Etsy Shop for $1.99

Grownups like to color too!

A passerby named Tiffany pointed out, after this post, that she'd like a coloring book like the one I jokingly mentioned. I got to thinking--maybe she's not the only one. I love to color with my daughter, but Strawberry Shortcake and Elmo sort of bore me. I've got a file about a quarter of an inch thick of things that are 'in progress.' Why not make a genuine grownup coloring book? I know it's not an original idea. There have been other non-kiddie coloring books BUT none of those contain my original work. To test out consumer interest in this idea, I am running a contest. Leave a comment here on my blog. Be sure to leave a link for me to get back to you if you win. And, if you have an extra second, tell me how you heard of my giveaway--facebook, deviantart, twitter etc. I will randomly choose a winner on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. EST (and have it posted by 10:30). That lucky person will get the whole 10 page file FREE! Good luck!
P.S. The coloring book WON'T have watermarks!

Home again, home again bloggety-blog

Back from vacation. I doodled this while I was away--it's for sale in my Etsy Shop :D. Now I'm back and I have to DEAL with a bunch of things. For one, the mountain of paper my kids brought home from school on their last day. Yeah, I know, their last day was June 6th. I've been procrastinating. I also am planning on attending Art Institute of Pgh Online in the fall. If I even have a hope of becoming a fabric designer, I need to learn the whole Adobe Creative Suite. Off to tackle that paper mountain. I finished climbing laundry mountain yesterday Yay!
